WAAST Prayer Guide – February 20, 2022
This week pray for MALI
The people and the Church in Mali need our prayers! Elections were to be held this coming week to restore a civilian government after 18 months of military rule. However, the ruling junta has postponed these until December 2025. In response, other West African nations and European countries have placed economic sanctions on Mali. This past week France decided to withdraw its peacekeeping troops. Terrorist linked to the Islamic State, Al-Qaida, and other groups are taking advantage of the instability, with civilians caught in the middle. A WAAST alumnus says, “There are many difficulties and uncertainties. The economic sanctions weigh heavily on the population and the political situation is not reassuring. But…we believe that God is watching over his church.” Only Jesus can bring peace! While open-air outreaches are not possible for security reasons, church activities and outreach through social media and radio continue. Classes are in session at the two Bible schools, and wives study alongside their husbands, equipping them for more effective ministry as well. WAAST has graduated eight Malians, who serve in national-church leadership in the Assemblies of God of Mali and as pastors, church planters, and Bible school teachers. The AG operates several primary and secondary schools.
Please pray
- that the Lord would encourage each pastor and church member with His assuring presence, so they may in turn encourage others and tell them the reason for their hope;
- for divine provision for people as goods become more scarce; at least 1.2 million people are facing a food crisis;
- for the current leaders of Mali, that the Spirit would work in their hearts and draw them to Jesus;
- that many Muslims (about 93% of the population) would turn to the true God in these uncertain time;
- that the Lord would call more Malians to full-time service for Him and open the doors for them to attend Bible school.
